Little Mallard Duck Sitting in the Water. My poem Ducks Unlimited? By Richard W Linford There's a little mallard duck; Sitting in the water; Sitting there just waiting; Doing what he otter. Treading in the water; Listening to Retrievers; Barking in the distance. Sitting there just thinking; Listening to the shotguns. Ruffles bright green feathers; Preens his bright green plumage; Listening to the dogs bark; Wondering when to fly; Wondering if he'll die; Waiting for the dark; Enviromentalism. Wondering if there really are; Ducks Unlimited; Or; Death Unlimited; Conservation. Global warming. DU. I. Two hundred million dollars; Wetlands conservation; Boat-blind decoys floating; Mallard drakes are landing; Black duck decoys standing; Duck calls quacking clacking; Camouflaged in waiting; Blinds now hide the hunters; Shotguns ready waiting; Cleaned the shotgun piston; So it cycles nicely; Labs are coming nearer; Little mallard duck there; Sitting in the water; Doing what he otter; Treading in the water; Little mallard flies away; Higher in the skies away; Higher toward the Son; Feeling life is done; Wondering when he'll die; Wondering who will sigh; Wondering who will cry.
