Description
Honoring all women who are persecuted. The Persecution 5.
This is my expressionistic painting \\\"THE PERSECUTION 5!\\\"
I served as Utah state chairman of the NCCJ - National Conference of Christians and Jews,\\\"and Muslims\\\" for 13 years and much of that time I served on the national board of the NCCJ, with meetings of and with like-minded people on that board held annually in New York City. Our agenda focused on combatting serious and virulent disrespect of individuals and groups for and of others and of course not much has changed in the interim. Today such \\\"serious and virulent disrespect\\\" is still a rule rather than an exception and so the work of fostering respect goes on.
Racial persecution, ethnic persecution, religious persecution, political persecution, gender and lifestyle persecution, war crimes, abuse of women and children, abuse of a thousand different hues, abuse, rape and physical harm and suffering of women and children (in Darfur and elsewhere), are on the increase not a decrease.
It seems there is a lull and a precious moment of peace only to be followed by THE PERSECUTION of one kind or another.
I originally titled my painting \\\"Why Persecute Me?\\\" Then I thought to call it \\\"Why Persecute and Abuse Me?\\\" The me had reference to each of us. At one point I thought I might call my painting simply \\\"Persecution.\\\"
\\\"The Persecution\\\" makes more sense to me than any of the other titles. THE PERSECUTION makes even more sense.
What will it take to stop the genocide in Darfur? What will it take to stop THE PERSECUTION of peoples, and families, and individuals world-wide?
THE PERSECUTION is a systematic harm, mistreatment, injury, abuse of a person or group of persons by another person or group of persons. There is RELIGIOUS PERSECUTION, ETHNIC PERSECUTION, POLITICAL PERSECUTION, GENDER PERSECUTION. The person persecuted is inflicted with PHYSICAL AND MENTAL SUFFERING, HARASSMENT, ISOLATION, IMPRISONMENT, FEAR, PAIN, AND EXCLUSION.
THE \\\"RELIGIOUS\\\" PERSECUTION has been levied against athiests, Bahais, Christians, Mormons (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints), Jehovah\\\'s Witnesses, Jews, Muslims (Ahmadis), Hindus, Falun Gong, Catholdics by Protestants, Protestants by Catholics, to name but a few.
THE \\\"ETHNIC\\\" PERSECUTION has been levied against germans, Irish, polish, hispanics, blacks, to name only a few ethnic groups. It would seem that each ethnic group can expect serious persecution at one time or another as time marches on.
THE PERSECUTION has been levied against those with genetic disorders including those with albinism or sicknesses of many different kinds.
THE PERSECUTION has been levied against short persons and tall persons, thin persons and fat persons.
THE PERSECUTION has been levied against those who are in the military and those who are not in the military for whatever reason.
Hatred and ill will and THE PERSECUTION know no bounds and they embrace war crimes and other \\\"crimes against humanity.\\\"
I think of my painting as the companion to \\\"The Scream\\\" by Norwegian artist Edvard Munch.
When I first saw the Munch \\\"Scream\\\" by his agonized figure - a painting created in 1893 to 1910, I felt that Edvard\\\'s painting did not derive from his vision of the red sky, although he or someone gave credit to some amazing display of nature as the singular cause, but rather I thought Edvard\\\'s painting was psychologically wrenched from his psyche at the thought of the pain and suffering he witnessed and perhaps even the thought of the pain and suffering he intuitively felt that he would witness in his lifetime; and I have even thought that his painting prophetically heralded the holocaust and other similar depraved and disrepectful and murderous persecutions.
It is my work with my painting \\\"The Persecution\\\" to draw attention to the persecution and suffering of so many individuals, families, and groups in the world.
My painting also keys off the New Testament experience of Paul on the road to Damascus and represents Paul smitten by the light of Christ, seeing the resurrected Christ, who says to him \\\"Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me ...\\\"
Saul, then the arch persecutor of the Christians, through his singular revelatory experience comes to know that Jesus is the Christ; Paul is converted in his singular conversion and study and acceptance of Christ\\\'s doctrine and atonement becomes Paul the Apostle to The Prince of Peace - Paul the Apostle to the one person in all history who was totally antithetical to Satan That Prince of Persecution.
My painting represents men and women everywhere who are persecuted because of their origin, skin color, economic condition, gender, faith, politics, religion or other ideology or difference.
My intent with \\\"THE PERSECUTION\\\" is to foster RESPECT for all men, women and children.
Only in mutual RESPECT will any of us find peace in this fractured world.
I have priced my painting at $1,000,000,000 to make a statement to the world.
Let\\\'s all work together to stop THE PERSECUTION of each other.
