my poem.
mustangs running with The Judas Horse.
the cowboys, soldiers, meat men, trained
The Judas horse, then let him loose to run along,
to lead the mustang mob into the holding pen;
when traitor's deed was done
they cut him out; they fed their Judas horse
his thirty pieces oats and hay;
each mustang felt the freezing brand, the BLM, their
Angles, Alpha Symbols, US Government, a registration number
on each horse,
the government now owns your freedom, yes it does,
to take away;
some mustangs were adopted, some set free, and most reserved for pet
food meat, worth multi-million dollars to the pet food vulture companies
watching in the wings, their management could sure care less about
the mustang freedom life, for money, only dollars, is their creed;
the mustang mix of horse breeds, feral living symbols of the cowboy, cowgirl
WEST and way, domesticated once upon a time, Iberian, Spanish, ranch stock,
mixed, now native, not invasive, running free, across the wild, wild west,
America, the free, the brave, Mestengo - Mexican mesteno, the Spanish Mestas,
long ago in medieval times, in Spain;
runs Przewalskis Horse, the only true, the only wild horse pure breed found,
must fly to far Mongolia, see them run, or look them up on Google or Youtube;
conquistadors they came, Columbus, then Cortes, the Barb, the
Andalusian breed, Arabian steed, escaped;
the Native All Americans saw their worth for travois, trade, for hunting deer, or antelope, for hunting bison on the plains, or hunting men, or plowing fields, or robbing banks;
so came the cowboys, cowgirls, farmers, robbers too, vaqueros,
Mesteneros, Mormon pioneers, the Oregon long trail, they rounded up
the great horse herds along the way; they broke those free mustangs,
they did, with spur and quirt and vicious bit, with blindfold too;
just letrrrr buck until you buck no more, they broke those free mustangs, their spirits, broken, humbled to the dust; Comanches and Shoshonis rode, Nez Perce do ride the Appaloosa, into war;
they slaughtered lots for pet food, Wild Horse Annie Act, the Wild
the Free, the Roaming Horses, Burros Act, The BLM, the US
Forest Service plays it role;
the thoroughbred was introduced, the quarter horse,
e'en Percheron or Clydsdale draft horse breed did do its part, whatever
horse got free did join the mob;
they face the grizzly bear, the wolf, the mountain lion, the cold, the heat,
out on the grassy plains, in bad lands, foothills, or in mountains, too;
but most of all they faced and still face man; some bode the mustangs good;
most with their Judas Horse do work the mustang ill.
