Artist's Description

The Legend of The Golden Duck. Lutek was a young shoemaker. Lutek's master shoemaker had not paid Lutek and so Lutek had no money. In fact, Lutek was a very good shoemaker. He wanted some funds so he could open his own shoe making shop and store. A man told Lutek that a Golden Duck lived in the basement of the nearby ancient Ostrogski Castle and guarded a treasure. One day Lutek went down into the basement to check out the story and there he saw a golden duck swimming in a pool of water. The golden duck turned into a gorgeous princess who handed Lutek a substantial sum of money and told him to spend the money only on himself. Should he spend the money on anyone else, it would disappear. Next day Lutek shopped until he dropped. He ate expensive meals. He hired a carriage and toured the city and countryside. He attended the theater. To his dismay, Lutek was able to spend but a small fraction of the money. Toward the end of the day Lutek met a hungry, poor beggar, and knowing how painful...
